What happens if you need services out-of-hours
Your GP
Ring our usual number: 0845 1212214 or 0114 2307818 and you will be able to connect to our out-of-hours service.
You will be given the choice to either be put through to the Sheffield GP Collaborative, or given the number for NHS Direct.
NHS Direct
For general health information call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or visit their website at www.nhsdirect.co.uk Information is also available on either Freeview channel 108, or by pressing the interactive button on your Sky Digital remote control and scrolling down the menu to NHS Interactive and selecting enter.
Where else to get help
Information, advice and treatment of minor illnesses is available from experienced NHS nurses at the NHS Walk-in Centre from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. The Minor Injuries Unit is also open from 8.00 am – 8.00 pm specifically for the treatment of minor injuries. Both services are located in the Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Claremont Place entrance) and are open all year, seven days a week including the Christmas and New Year period. You do not need to make an appointment.
Your dentist
For all out-of-hours dental services ring the Sheffield dental care line on 0845 600 3245. This service is provided by NHS Direct, who will be able to advise you about self-care, or the next available treatment session, as appropriate. This service is for existing practice patients as well as those without a regular dentist or visitors and students.
There are no out of hours dental services available at the Northern General Hospital or the Children’s Hospital but dental emergencies e.g. acute mouth bleeding, severe infection with swelling or injury to the mouth should be seen at the Northern General Hospital or the Sheffield Children’s Hospital as appropriate.

For advice on emergency contraception you can visit the Walk-in Centre, the Central Health Clinic at 1 Mulberry Street (phone 0114 271 6816 for an appointment or call the advice line on 0114 271 8840), your local pharmacy or your GP.
